The Stars Have Reached a Verdict
The Stars Have Reached a Verdict
A piece created in 2026, inspired by the guillotine. A continuation of my Person Controlled by the Stars universe.
Lately I found myself thinking about authority, who holds power, who makes decisions, and how those decisions ripple through the lives of ordinary people.
A tiny figure hangs beneath a guillotine frame, watched over by two stars. The piece is constructed in two main sections. The blade can be raised and lowered, connected to a chain that hooks onto the side of the frame, echoing the mechanism of a traditional guillotine. The piece is fully fabricated by hand out of metal sheets and chains.
Part kinetic sculpture and part wearable theatre, The Stars Have Reached a Verdict sits somewhere between dark humour and unease. Are the stars symbols of fate? Power? Luck? Authority?
